Documented evidence of the age-old adage,
“mother knows best” was engraved in
brass in December when Angie Hurt, RN,
received a plaque commemorating her
selection as the Tombigbee Healthcare
Authority’s 2008 Employee of the Year.
Hurt, who has worked in the Patient Care
Services Division since 2004, jokes that she
only became a nurse because her mother made
her. “But I stayed a nurse because I have
found real joy in my job. I enjoy talking to
people and helping them feel better,” she
said.
“Angie
is a real asset to our hospital,” said
Cathy Hughes, Division Director of PCS.
“She is a very knowledgeable and skillful nurse.
She continually demonstrates compassion and
concern for her patients. Angie is a perfect
example of what we are striving for with all
our employees.”
“I was very surprised to receive
this award,” Hurt said. “It made me feel
very good. The people I work with are like
family to me.”
Apparently, she was the only one
surprised by the employees’ choice for
Employee of the Year. “Angie is
very dependable. We constantly get
compliments about her from other staff,
patients and doctors,” said Mike Marshall,
CEO. “She genuinely cares about her job
and the people she’s taking care of and
that shows. It’s easy to see why she was
chosen for this honor.”
As the Employee of the Year, she
received an engraved plaque and watch, as
well as a $100 gift certificate.
Others nominated for the award were:
Loudella McIntosh, Charlotte Crepps, Lesa
Brister, Deborah Bambarger, Melonee Coats,
Ida Price, Lashandor Collins, Christine
Lloyd, Elmyra Lowe, Kathy Lewis, and Beth
Wright.
