The healthcare industry has undergone tremendous changes in technology and services since Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital first opened its doors in 1953. What began as a 29-bed facility with 25 employees and only four patients has grown into the Tombigbee Healthcare Authority, Member of UAB Health System: a total healthcare delivery system that includes a 99-bed hospital and provides over 30 health care services for our community. The latest in this evolution of care was announced in late 2018 with the implementation of a Hospitalist program providing around the clock on-site care for our patients. We shall continue to grow and adapt to meet our community’s current and future healthcare needs while providing a safe, compassionate environment that is conducive to the healing process.

Letter From Our CEO
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, employees, volunteers and medical staff of Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, welcome! Since 1953, our hospital has been committed to providing our community and our region with exceptional healthcare services. Our “100/0” operational philosophy is very simple……It is a cultural expectation that each of our team take on 100% responsibility for themselves and the satisfaction of patients, families and physicians they come into contact with and have 0% excuses for not giving great service and exceptional quality in every single interaction they have with every single person. This is a lofty goal but one we take serious in our pursuit of exceptional quality, unsurpassed patient safety and world class customer satisfaction.
The most sacred part of our commitment to you is the incredible blessing you bestow on us each time you entrust us with yours or a loved one’s care. We do what we do because we want to make a difference and touch lives. The opportunity to serve you and your family through the difficult times as well as be a part in the joy you feel when health returns is what makes our work so meaningful and enriching. We have a saying here that “people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care” My hope is that from the moment you walk in our door you will know how sincerely honored and thankful we are that you have chosen to come to us.
I realize that these are words on paper but I hope that you will give each one of us the opportunity to deliver on this promise and let me be the first to illustrate our commitment. I give my cell phone number to each family and patient that comes to our hospital and I ask that you call me 24 hours a day/7 days per week if we are not meeting your expectations.
